This 2-day workshop will dramatically increase your understanding of how to prepare for and execute more impactful night photography images.

Session I

Session 1 covers the foundational and planning principles of night photography. This session includes an overview and then a much deeper dive into the following areas:

1. Explore more of what do you feel in night photography, what draws people to it or away from it.

2. Go into detail and discover the types of night photography from star, milky way, moon, aurora borealis, eclipse, and comet photography. What are the settings I used for each of these distinct types of night photography and how to find these scenes?

3. Learn how to overcome some of the challenges of night photography.

4. Discover how using tools like PhotoPills to plan and execute night photography using their virtual reality, time planning, focus, star trails, etc.

5. Deepen your understanding of what rules should we be following for night photography to get the sharpest images.

6. Examine your camera settings. What are the ideal settings for night images? What is the value of Long Exposure Noise Reduction? How about how we focus or deal with things like air glow or hot pixels.

7. Go in depth to look at Milky Way planning based on geographic location and time of year along with moon phases.

8. Evaluate your gear selection. What things do you really need to improve your chances of capturing the images the way you want!

The first workshop will also review some best practices and a review of some of my most popular images where I will talk about the Technique and Vision that went into my images. This includes the technical capture details, histogram, and thoughts on why I chose the composition or what I was seeing the light.

3. Learning how to deal with noise in our images.

4. Explore the use of external programs like StarStax for star trails or Starry Landscape Stacker for stacking Milky Way.

5. Evaluate what types of edits do you want to do in Photoshop vs the treatment of RAW files within Lightroom or Adobe Camera Raw.

6. Discover the value of the local adjustments’ vs the global adjustments and how can you align depth, texture, luminosity, sharpness, and focus on your processing and by using the tools in Lightroom or Adobe Camera Raw.

7. Go in depth and get an overview of how I go through my images as part of my workflow process where you will have me talk you through a step-by-step evaluation and processing.
