Antarctica Black & White
Fortuna: Fortuna Bay in South Georgia Island held majestic peaks with flowing glaciers and at their base 10s of thousands of King Penguins.
Lingering: With the currents mixing with winds and mixing with mountains you saw places where the clouds would linger and take on new forms.
Serenity: Serenity is the quality of being peaceful and calm. We often times think of the harshness of the poles as being a land of constant turmoil. The peace and calm in the mornings and evenings rivaled that which you will see anywhere.
Birds of a Feather: Seem to flock together. While Icebergs will take different forms, shapes, sizes, and yet still be grouped or come back together.
Behemoth: Behemoth is a beast from biblical times, and is a form of the primeval chaos-monster formed at the beginning of creation. Each of these behemoth's stand alone below the massive beasts of the mountains behind.
Castle: Surrounded by a moat. A freezing cold moat of ice and frigid seas shape the castle of the South.
Dreamscape: I brought my imagination and my camera into this landscape and was able to bring my own dreams and thoughts to life as I saw fit.
Dynamic: Look and tell me what you see? Sculpted by water into dynamic forms that are open to our own interpretations.
Fractured: We seem to see the grace of the icebergs and overlook their very fractured nature of how they lose their size.
Guanaco: The towering Guanaco over the southernmost town in Argentina over the Beagle Channel.
Lingering 2.0: Each night as the light started to fade it would linger on far beyond the time you would have expected it to fade.
Nunatak: A nunatak (from Inuit nunataq) is the summit or ridge of a mountain that protrudes from an ice field or glacier that otherwise covers most of the mountain or ridge. They are also called glacial islands.
Petrel: The Petrel was built in Oslo in 1928 as a whaling vessel that has been decaying in place and so will be gone in a short time.
Scale: In the landscape we often times fail to show the scale of what we feel. As big peak towers over the still mighty iceberg you start to get a sense.
Sculpted: The logic of how something is sculpted is easy to absorb and conceptualize. The actual finished product defies logic and conceptualization.
Sentinel of the South: As reached the southernmost part of our journey we had a sentinel overseeing our transition back north.
Remnants: A small remnant of a time that has passed us by, the whaling era. These giant tanks that are surrendering to nature once housed immense quantities of whale oil.
The Lean: Defying gravity the lean of this iceberg did not signal impending doom or a catastrophe to come.
The Wander: Continually I found myself in Wonder, but also in a state of Wander. Mentally wandering out onto these expanses and towards these far away peaks and glaciers.
Towering: These floating fortresses signified a formidable mass of towering bulk among the waterways.
Within: Just like in life, sometimes the most incredible beauty was when you looked past the obvious and within.
Wonder Light: The light. The light. The light. It would hold and bring about such new ways to see the landscape. Creating a scene of wonder almost anytime of day.
Light Catch: The mountains of Antarctica mixed with the ice and water provided and almost endless canvas to catch and display the light.
Massif: A principal mountain mass: a block of the earth's crust bounded by faults or flexures and displaced as a unit without internal change.
